Author Michelle Shocklee Produces Outstanding Novel Despite Difficulties
Appalachian Song is Michelle Shocklee’s latest novel from Tyndale House Publishers and is available at all major book outlets. I received an advanced copy of Appalachian Song through NetGalley promotions.
It’s 1943, and five mature sisters who never married live together in a cabin in the Tennessee Appalachian Mountains. The sisters have no electricity, plumbing, or a phone. To cram all five sisters into one story and one small setting was brave on Shocklee’s part, and she accomplished the task with skill. Each sister is adorable (or intimidating) in their own way. Jennie takes on responsibility. Bonnie is tough and does hard chores without complaint despite her arthritis. Rubie has a special connection with God. Amelie is skilled in sewing and knitting. Bertie has a big heart and narrates the sisters’ story.
