Friday, September 8, 2023, at Chesley Field, the Breckenridge Buckaroos won the battle over the Cisco Loboes, as they kicked, carried, and threw the wobbly pigskin. The score was 41 to 6 in favor of Breckenridge. Cisco now is 0-3 for the year and Breckenridge is 1-2, but I might hasten to add the team is getting more polished and is coming together. The score is no indication of what transpired, and evidence of a really good football team is emerging from the ashes of Friday night. Cisco afforded Breckenridge 3 long scores the 1st half, and a 4th score was made with 7 seconds left in the half. Notice Breck ran the opening kickoff back, then Cisco marched the ball down to the Breck 25 yard line, and they stripped the ball from the Cisco runner and ran it 75 yards for a 2nd TD, and finally the 3rd Buck TD was set up by a pass interception; it was 21-0 in favor of Breckenridge at the end of the 1st Quarter and with 7 seconds left in the half it was 27 to 0. Meanwhile Cisco had marched the ball to the 5 yard line and the 11 yard line and came away with no score. In the 3rd Quarter the Loboes made it to the 5 yard line and the 14 yard line—before 2 interceptions foiled their efforts. To add insult to injury as the saying goes, Gus Hart. Cisco's starting tailback didn't play the 2nd half because of a knee injury. Breckenridge stripped the ball twice, once for a 75 yard TD and the other time near the goal line which prevented a Cisco score. So, taking everything into account, Cisco played a whale of a game, moving the ball freely from their spread formation, and utilizing the pass to great effectiveness. Yes, I witnessed the Lobo line playing their hearts out in the 100 degree heat for the 3rd week in a row and they were opening holes and keeping people out and stopping it up the middle. You guys are great. There are great things ahead. Brayden Rogers and Cole Thompson seemed to be all over the field. Remember and watch for these numbers this next game: #50 Jackson Wilks, #52 Cordell Harper, #53 Haden Rains, #55 Tyler Brown, #66 Talon Bruner, #73 Brant Slagle, #75 Tanner Thompson, and #88 Rezner Wilks.
1st Quarter—Breckenridge received the kickoff and #6 Franco took it up the sideline for a TD. The return was 85 yards long. Sawyer Wimberly, #30, kicked the extra point and the score was 7 to 0. There was 11:43 on the clock. After the ensuing kickoff, Cisco got the ball on their own 34 yard line. # 6 Gus Hart returned the kickoff. Kelton Desmond # 21 ran over the right side for 9 yards and the ball was on the Cisco 43 yard line. Hart made 6 yards up the middle for a 1st down. Desmond carried the ball around left end to the Buck 34 yard line for another 1st down. Kanon Orsagh #10 tried a keeper up the middle and fumbled it forward, but Cisco recovered and it was 2nd and 1 yard for another first. The ball was on the Buck 25 yard line, Orsagh went up the middle and there was a mass of tacklers surrounding him. Then all at once a Buck player has stripped the ball from his hands—no one could really see what happened, but Breckenridge had the ball and ran 75 yards for their 2nd TD. Wimberly kicked the extra points and it was Breckenridge 14 and Cisco 0 with 8:47 left in the 1st Quarter. Dillon Silva received the Buck kickoff
and returned it to the Cisco 40 yard line. Desmond went over the right side and it was 2nd and 4 with the ball on the 46 of Cisco. Desmond went up the middle for 2 and it was 3rd and 2. #6 Gus Hart picked up 1 yard on a run up the middle and it was 4 and 1, when Orsagh plunged up the middle for a 1st down on the Buck 47. After an incomplete pass and the loss of several yards by Silva, it was 3rd and 16 from the Cisco 47. Then a pass to #9 Jaden White was intercepted by the Bucks and they took over on the Cisco 27 yard line—maybe it was better then a punt. After no gain, Sawyer Wimberly made 7 yards for the Bucks and it was 3rd and 3 on the 36 yard line. A QB keeper made a 1st down and moved the ball to the 41 yard line. A pass to #6 for the Bucks made it 1st and 10 on the Cisco 25 yard line. The Buck QB kept the ball and ran it to the Cisco 13 yard line—Cole Thompson made the tackle. After a short gain, a pass in the flat to #30 Sawyer Wimberly resulted in a 6-yard TD, making the score, with the extra point, 21-0 for the Bucks with 2:17 left in the 1st Quarter. Holding was called on the kickoff on the Loboes so the ball was placed at the 20 yard line and it was 1st and 10. There was holding on the ensuing kickoff and the Loboes had 1st and 10 on their 20 yard line. #6 Gus Hart went around the right side for 3 yards; it was 2nd and 7. Silva went around the right side for no gain and it was 3rd and 7. The ball was on the 27 yard line, and Orsagh's pass was batted down near the line of scrimmage. A kick by Brayden Rogers rolled to the Buck 22 yard line. Wimberly made 3 for the Bucks and it was 2nd and 7.
