Bob grew up in Cisco and throughout his lifetime, he was no stranger to Eastland County. He began meeting the public between the ages of 12-14 as a paperboy for the Fort Worth Star Telegram in Cisco. He sacked and delivered groceries for the local A & P Grocery Store and Clover Leaf Farm Store in Cisco. In 1954, he graduated from Cisco High School where he was active in Lobo Football and other school activities. He continued his education at Texas Tech in Lubbock; Cisco Jr. College; East Texas State at Commerce; and numerous computer technical schools where he attained a Certified Data Processor Certificate. Additionally, he served the public as an accountant preparing public and private tax returns; teaching data processing to students while employed at Cisco College; and later following retirement in Houston, Bob gathered data from residents for the United States Census in Eastland County. These numerous opportunities introduced him to generations of families in the area.
In 1957, he married Lou Jane Walker, and three children were born to their union: Sharla, Greg and Patrick Qualls. They were divorced in 1979.
