Cisco Police were called to a local residence on July 7, 2023 in response to a man being shot. Upon arrival officers performed CPR on the man who had been shot in the neck area with a handgun. Subsequently, EMS personnel arrived but all attempts to save the man were unsuccessful.
A 28 year old male was immediately detained and the weapon used in the shooting was confiscated. Texas Rangers were notified and arrived on scene a short time later. A number of witnesses were interviewed as well as the detained male.
It was determined that the decedent, 36 year old John David Cox of Tuscola, Texas had arrived at the home and forced his way inside, assaulted two occupants before being fatally wounded by a gunshot. Cox was found to have an active protection order from Taylor County prohibiting him from having any contact with certain occupants of the home. Cox was pronounced deceased by Eastland Justice of the Peace Jesse Speer. An autopsy was ordered.
