I once spent six days working on my writing process. The goal was to let go of word count quotas for a week and delve into creativity and flow. First I had to figure out how to fully immerse myself in my writing to reach “the zone,” the state in which an author’s concentration is so deep that stray thoughts (What are we having for dinner? Oo, a squirrel!) don’t dare come near.
Duh: I simply had to do more of those things that help me get into the zone, and less of those things that don’t. I think we all have a sense of what helps and what doesn’t, but do we pay attention?
