Over fifty years passed before Vietnam Veterans Larry Monroe and Bryant Strickland, who served together in Vietnam, met again. Strickland was returning from Las Vegas, Nevada to his home in Ellijay, Georgia when he called Larry and said he would be including Eastland on his route. Eastland County News staff was privileged to be a part of this reunion when Larry and wife Carolyn, Bryant and daughter Michelle stopped by. The two veterans talked together as if no time had lapsed.
Veteran Larry Monroe is well known in Eastland County for his long standing assistance to veterans and related projects, such as the Ranger Vietnam Veterans Memorial Park and Ranger Veterans Support Group. In 2007, while at local VFW Chapter 4136, he mentioned he would really like to contact a fellow veteran with whom he had served with in Vietnam. Kay Zarate, wife of Veteran Ruben Zarate, mentioned that she could look into finding him. Not to much time passed before Monroe and Strickland were talking to each other by phone.
Servicemen Monroe and Strickland served in Vietnam under the U.S. Army Support Command, 86th General Support Battalion in the location of Cha Rang Valley.
