By Tommy Wells The Gorman Panthers did everything the needed to do this past weekend to win their Region I-IA semifinal showdown. Unfortunately for the Panthers, so did the May Tigers.
May scored five times in the top of the seventh inning in Game 3 on Saturday and eked out a wild 13-8 victory that gave them a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-three playoff series. The win pushed May into the regional championship game against Nazareth, beginning Thursday in Snyder.
Both May and Gorman managed to push across plenty of rains in Game 3. After battling to a 1-1 deadlock through the first four innings, the bats came alive. Both teams scored five runs in the fifth inning, and then tacked on two more in the sixth to send the game into the seventh with the score knotted at 8-8.
